What must come first

Castelgandolfo, April 29, 1999 On the 29th April 1999, during the global appointment with her ‘family’ spread throughout the world, Chiara gave her most recent experience of her relationship with God, in prayer. The Pact

July 1949 Chiara Lubich tells of the special pact of unity made with Igino Giordani (whom she called ‘Foco’) on the 16th of July 1949, the prelude to her mystical experience that summer. 19. Il Patto

Luglio 1949 Chiara Lubich narra il Patto di unità stretto con Igino Giordani (che lei chiamava Foco) il 16 luglio 1949, preludio all’esperienza spirituale e mistica di quell'estate. 19. Vivevamo queste esperienze quando venne in montagna Foco. 20. Foco, innamorato di santa Caterina, aveva cercato sempre nella sua vita una vergine da poter seguire. Ed ora aveva l’impressione d’averla trovata fra noi. Per cui un giorno mi fece una proposta: farmi il voto d’obbedienza, pensando che, così facendo, avrebbe obbedito a Dio. “Abbiate fiducia, io ho vinto il mondo”

Roma, 30 aprile 1960 Quando il mondo con la sua superficialità ci toglie il respiro e la vita con i suoi pesi e le sue prove prende il sopravvento, ci prende la voglia di mollare. E' lì che nasce la speranza in Colui nel quale "si può sperare contro ogni speranza" Non c’è da cercare tanto lontano per trovare rimedio e soluzione ai fumi che ammorbano l’aria del mondo. Il Vangelo è la salute eterna e chi in nome di esso e per esso pur muore scomparendo, anche ai giorni nostri, ignorato forse da tutti, vive. Egli, perché ha amato e perdonato e difeso e non ha ceduto, è un vittorioso e tale viene accolto nei padiglioni eterni. Ma il Vangelo non ha da essere solo la norma della nostra morte; dev’essere il pane quotidiano della nostra vita.
