To be a protagonist

How can we reconcile this with Jesus’ invitation to renounce ourselves and therefore, to “annul ourselves,” in order to follow him and to have Eternal Life?”"Maria - Roma Jesus did not come on earth solely to prepare us for Eternal Life. Certainly, this was his main mission. He was also concerned with the earthly life of men and women. His public life was filled with so many physical miracles! He taught us to ask the Father for our daily bread, to trust him for what we will wear and what we will eat. He promised the hundredfold in this life to those who put him in the first place in their heart, putting aside all other affections…. However, what he wants is that already here on earth we live like when we will be in heaven.

I am the gate…

April 1999 Commetary on the Word of Life: I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture (Jn 10:9). Those who were listening to Jesus were familiar with the image of the gateway, from the dream of Jacob (“This is the gateway to heaven,” Gen 28:17) to God’s beloved Jerusalem with its ancient portals. (See Psalm 24:7) Psalm 118:20 reads: “This gate is the Lord’s; the just shall enter it.” Jesus makes it his own, and fills it with new meaning. He is the gate to salvation, who leads us to pastures where divine goods are freely given. He is the one and only mediator and through him men and women can go to the Father. “He is the door to the Father,” says Ignatius of Antioch, “through whom have entered Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the prophets, the apostles and the Church.” (Phila IX, 1). I am the gate... Yes, the image of the gate surely touched the hearts of

God himself will always be with them

January 1999 Commetary on the Word of Life: “God himself will always be with them” (see Rev. 21:3). In January, in many parts of the world, Christians celebrate their common faith together with special prayers and meetings. The theme chosen for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is taken from the Book of Revelations. Let’s read the whole excerpt: Behold, the dwelling of God is with men.He will dwell with themAnd they shall be his people,And God himself will be with them;He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,And death shall be no more,Neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more,For the former things have passed away. This month’s Word of Life is such earnest encouragement: if we want to be part of his people, we must allow him to live among us. But how is this possible? What can we do in order to have such a foretaste, while still on earth, of the endless joy we will have in seeing God? This is exactly

Let’s run to Love!

A letter from June 1944 My little sister in the immense Love of God! Listen, I beg you, listen to the voice of this little heart! You have been blinded with me by the luminous blaze of an Ideal that is greater than all and sums up all: the infinite Love of God! O, my little sister! He is the one, He is my God, your God, who has bound us together with a bond stronger than death, because it will never decay, one like the spirit, immense, infinite, delicate, strong, immortal like the Love of God! It is Love that makes us sisters! It is Love that has called us to Love! It is Love that has spoken in the depths of our hearts and has told us: “Look around you. Everything in the world passes away. Every day has its evening, and evening is quickly here. Every life has its sunset, and the sunset of your life is quickly here! And yet, don’t despair. Yes, everything does pass, because nothing

Mary, the Flower of Humanity

When we look at nature, it seems that Jesus gives it his new commandment too.I observed two plants and I thought about pollination. Before this happens the plants grow upward, as if they were loving God with all their being. Then they unite, almost as if they were loving one another as the Persons of the Trinity love one another. From two they become one. They love one another to the point of abandonment, to the point of losing their personalities, so to speak, like Jesus in his forsakenness. Then from the flower that blossoms, a fruit is born and life, therefore, continues. It is like God’s eternal Life imprinted in nature. The Old and the New Testaments form a single tree. Its flowering happened in the fullness of time, and its only flower was Mary. The fruit which followed was Jesus. The tree of humanity was
