The period of Silvia's childhood is linked to an area of the city with a parish rich in religious, cultural and social initiatives. Significant in those years was her relationship with the Sisters of "Maria Bambina". In the convent not far from the Lubich family home, they welcomed girls and young women in their female oratory. They prepared Silvia for the sacraments.

In a few years, the Movement inspired by Chiara Lubich spread throughout Italy and, after the war, it seemed appropriate to move to Rome. She was advised to contact Igino Giordani, a member of the Italian Parliament. The first meeting took place in Montecitorio on September 17, 1948. “I went with two or three people to see the Hon. Igino Giordani. He was a more experienced person than us, he was 25 years older than me; he had been an apologist, he had defended the Church, and he was also a journalist: at that time he was writing for "Il Popolo" and also the magazine "Fides" which was actively engaged in the Church’s struggles. He was a person with many, many qualities. Naturally he was in a human sense immensely superior to us, but when he heard our story, our little story, he welcomed it completely. He was very sensitive in spiritual matters.”[1]

I primi anni vissuti a Roma, sono per Chiara molto impegnativi ed è necessario un periodo di riposo. “Abbiamo pensato noi ragazze di andare in montagna nella Valle di Primiero. Una di noi aveva ereditato una piccola baita, l’aveva un po' messa su, ricostruita un po’ e quella poteva ospitarci, molto povera naturalmente. Siamo andate e lì eravamo in contemplazione - vorrei dire - di quello che il Signore aveva fatto, della sua spiritualità soprattutto, delle linee della nuova spiritualità che stava nascendo[1]. “Ricordo che in quei giorni la natura mi sembrava tutta avvolta dal sole; già lo era dal lato fisico; ma a me sembrava che un sole più forte la avvolgesse, la inzuppasse, cosicché mi appariva tutta “innamorata”. Vedevo le cose, i fiumi, le piante, i prati, le erbe, fra loro legati da un legame d’amore nel quale ognuno aveva un perché d’amore verso gli altri”[2].

Pasquale Foresi had heard about Chiara Lubich, her spirituality and her life experience, from one of her first companions, Graziella De Luca. It was at Christmas 1949 that he met Chiara for the first time. Igino Giordani remembers that first meeting: "There was a gathering attended by Giulio Marchesi, Antonio Petrilli, Enzo Fondi and Marino Fornari from Rome, Pasquale Foresi from Pistoia, and others: a total of 42 people. Foresi did not speak for the first three days. He was the first to be beside Chiara or at her feet, listening to her avidly, as if thirsty to hear more. Eventually he burst into tears and rushed back to Rome to ask his father for permission to enter the focolare”[1].Two things were remarkable in that meeting: the speed with which Pasquale Foresi understood Chiara; and the illumination with which Chiara glimpsed his mission within the Movement in the following years [2].
