Every year, the 7th of December is an opportunity to remember the time when Chiara Lubich left everything to consecrate her life to God, being profoundly certain of his love.

Chiara made her vow in 1943, but her consecration was very different from the form of words that she read out loud, according to the custom of the time. It was something new.

For her, that 7th December was her wedding day, a day of extraordinary happiness because she was marrying God. She could expect everything from him.

However, she could not have imagined what was to come: the development of the Focolare Movement, the birth of a Work of God, and of a family that embraces the whole world. All this has grown following the path in which the chief milestone was Chiara’s “yes”.

A path is truly such if it leads to a goal. What is our goal? Chiara Lubich asked a group of focolarini in 1960. We want to reach the goal of being, as much as possible, another Jesus, which at the same time means being another Mary. And along the way, it is useful to stop occasionally, on anniversaries like today’s, for example, which is a bit special. In fact, the 7th of December 2022 marks the start of the eightieth year of our journey along the path illuminated by the charism of unity.
