Castel Gandolfo, December 8, 1996 And now the Holy Spirit.The third divine Person had not been explored in depth by our Church, at least not by the people. The Holy Spirit was said to be “the unknown God.” We knew that he existed. We prayed to him, “Veni, Sancte Spiritus,” but there was not much more In the Focolare Movement, the Holy Spirit is considered, above all, for what he is in God and for humankind. He is the bond of unity between the divine Persons, Father and Son, and the bond of unity among Christians. Moreover, because he can be present in the hearts of non-Christians of good will, he is in a certain way the bond of unity also with them.One characteristic of the Focolare is that of listening to his voice within us. Fiera di Primiero (TN), 1959 Chiara Lubich scrisse questo testo per la Mariapoli di Fiera di Primiero del 1959. La Mariapoli era, a quei tempi, un periodo di vacanze trascorse insieme da quanti vivevano lo spirito dei Focolari. Tra le tante parole che il Padre pronunziò nella Sua Creazione ve ne fu una tutta singolare. Non poteva esser tanto oggetto d’intelletto quanto d’intuizione, non tanto splendore di sole divino, quanto ombra soave e tiepida, quasi nuvoletta alacre e bianca che tempera e adatta i raggi del sole alla capacità visiva dell’uomo. Era nei piani della Provvidenza che il Verbo si facesse carne, che una parola, la Parola, fosse scritta in terra a carne e sangue, e questa Parola abbisognava d’uno sfondo. Fiera di Primiero, 1959 Among the many words pronounced by the Father in all of his Creation, one was unique. Not so much an object of thought but more of intuition, not so much the splendor of divine sun but a cool and gentle shade, like a little cloud, fresh and white, that screens and adjusts the sun’s rays so that human eyes can see. It was in the plans of Providence that the Word be made flesh, that a word, the Word, be written on earth in flesh and blood; and this Word needed a background.
